Answers to our FAQ's can be found here. Don't hesitate to call for any other reason.

Q

When should I come to Alamo Heights Minor Emergency Clinic versus going to the emergency room or my primary doctor?

A

Our medical providers have specialty training and experience in Emergency Medicine. In general, if you have an acute medical problem, and you do not require the assistance of an ambulance, we should be able to provide appropriate medical care with courtesy and excellence. There are circumstances in which patients are better served in a hospital based facility or in another specialty based facility, and our medical providers make that decision based on the specifics of the medical situation.

Q

Do you prescribe refills for medications written by another physician?

A

Refills of medication are usually gladly prescribed after an evaluation by the medical provider, however, there are some rare instances when refills may not be prescribed depending on the specific medical situation. Examples may include medications not routinely prescribed by physicians trained in Emergency Medicine and controlled substances requiring triplicate prescriptions.

Q

Who do I contact with questions regarding my bill?

A

Due to the ever-increasing governmental regulation and billing complexity, billing services are provided by an independent billing corporation. Any and all questions regarding your bill should be directed to Triquetra Healthcare Services at 210-858-8522 phone or 210-543-8299 fax.

Q

Do I need to make an appointment?

A

We do not take appointments. Patients will generally be seen in the order that they arrive on a first-come, first-treated basis. However, we frequently evaluate and treat patients that require urgent evaluation. Patients with potentially serious medical complaints will be seen as quickly as possible regardless of arrival time.

Q

Can I be treated if I don't have medical insurance? How much can I expect to pay for treatment if I do not have medical insurance?

A

We are happy to treat patients without medical insurance, and we actually prefer direct payment for many reasons. The cost varies widely depending on the services rendered, and it is always less expensive when the payment is made on the same day as the visit due to significant discounts that can be given for prompt payment. An initial evaluation by the physician generally costs $95-$145 depending on the complexity of the medical problem and the treatment rendered. Lab tests, xrays, and procedures will add to this cost.

Q

Do you accept Medicaid?

A

We do not accept Medicaid.
